Julie Murphy is a Toronto contemporary semi-realist painter with a passion for colour. Her artistic process began as a student under the tutelage of art instructors both at school and through many specialized art classes. She showed early artistic promise winning two art contests while she was still in elementary school. As a child, she was rarely without a sketchbook or paintbrush in her hand.
Julie has explored various mediums including printmaking, sculpting, etching, oils, and inks, but her real love is acrylics. Exposed to many galleries in both Europe and North America, she began a love affair with the fabulous Impressionists at a young age. Her primary source of inspiration for her richly diverse subject matter comes from extensive travel, reading, and appreciation for beauty. Her art is characterized by vibrant colors, contrasting shapes, and bold compositions.
She has exhibited her art in group exhibitions within schools and artist event collaborations. “Julie demonstrates a highly developed sense of color and composition and a keen attraction to developing light in singular objects. She illuminates qualities that often go unnoticed by the casual observer.” Teresa Hannigan, client
Her artwork is in many private residences throughout Canada and the US. She has been commissioned to create a number of pieces including a 6ft long triptych entitled “Tulips,” a lively modern piece called “Modern Japan” 30×40, “Blue Venice” 30 x 40, and “Student Bagpipers” 24×48.
Julie is currently working on a series called “Trees, the light”
